As the release date of my new novel nears, I wanted to post on some wonderful updates.
I mentioned that I wanted to have some of the books sales donated to One Spirit in my last blog post. One Spirit is a Native American service organization founded to assist and support American Indians.
I was thrilled to contact Jeri Baker, the director at One Spirit, and he was honored to have me partner with them on connecting my book, Unspeakable Things with their wonderful group . A portion of every book sold, including kindle digital copies, (the novel is exclusively sold only on the Amazon Kindle store in digital format) will be donated to One Spirit, to help fund various different projects on Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota, such as the Allen Youth center.
This partnership means a great deal to me, since I myself have Indian heritage in my own family, I know I don't look like it, but I promise you I definitely do! I am also honored to help the reservation and help bring more hope to the Lakota youth. This is just the beginning of what I hope to be, an epic fund raising effort for One Spirit and the Lakota Indians. I have high hopes that readers will enjoy the fiction novel and then take another step and take the time to learn about what they can do to help One Spirit, but even if they only purchase the novel, they are still helping, as I said before a portion of every sale will be sent directly to One Spirit!
On the back of the book there is a symbol of Pine Ridge reservation, which is the circle of eight teepees, and a note about the sales and One Spirit.
First used in 1961, this flag was approved by the Oglala Sioux Tribe OST Council on March 9, 1962 as the official flag of the Oglala Sioux Tribe (OST).
The circle of eight teepees on the flag represent the nine districts of the reservation: Porcupine, Wakpamni, Medicine Root, Pass Creek, Eagle Nest, White Clay, LaCreek, Wounded Knee, and Pine Ridge.
This fall I will be attending the 2012 Writers Conference in Columbus Indiana, where I have been asked to be one of the featured Authors in attendance. I will be featuring Unspeakable Things, and doing book signings for an hour that day. I will also have my own booth, where we will be sharing information about One Spirit, the new book, and various other things.
My next project, as I am always working on something, ..lol.. is creating jewelery that ties in with the novel, and that is mentioned in the book. In the novel, my two main characters wore talisman necklaces, and I am working on recreating them and also some bracelets as well.
The jewelry will be available at the writers conference, with %100 of the profits going to One Spirit, I plan to have it for sale on my home website, at heatherswriting.com for readers to purchase along with the book which will be available for purchase as well.
July 27th is the official release date!
I also want to thank Jeri Baker and everyone at One Spirit for working with me and it is my greatest hope that the books sales will be exceptional, and that the donations will be able to help fund and assist the people of Pine Ridge.
